We are SO honoured and excited to finally reveal that our very own book, Dear Chronic Illness, published by Wallace Publishing, will be released on 14th June 2018! Compiled by SSK founder Pippa, Dear Chronic Illness features a collection of short letters collaboratively written by 16 young people, addressed to their conditions. It was important to us that the letters avoided being your typical sob stories or fuel for misguided ‘inspiration’, and instead they provide a light-hearted and humorous commentary on each of the writers’ various experiences, whilst also aiming to give insight into the challenges of navigating life whilst living with chronic ill-health.

The process of creating this book began around two years ago, after we got talking to the wonderful Leesa Wallace. Leesa has dedicated so much time and energy into supporting SSK and turning this book from an initial idea into An Actual Thing, and we are so thankful to be publishing this book with Wallace Publishing. This is a completely new endeavour for me, and Leesa has been so accommodating and supportive throughout the entire experience.

Dear Chronic Illness will be available in both eBook and paperback format: the eBook is available to pre-order on Amazon now (affiliate link). We’ll be sharing information on how you can purchase your own physical copy closer to the release date: be sure to keep an eye on our social media (linked at the bottom of this post) so you don’t miss out! All of our royalties from the book are to be donated to Spoonie Survival Kits, meaning that each book sale will directly equate to funding the enterprise and continuing our development. This will hopefully enable us to raise even more fundsfor charity, and create even more accessible opportunities for fellow chronically ill and disabled people!

The book contains letters addressed to long-term conditions ranging from POTS to endometriosis, from tumours to Severe M.E, and I’m definitely biased but… to me, each letter is a work of art on its own. It means the world to us that this book features 15 of our favourite people, who have so kindly given their time and energy by contributing their stories. Our contributors include…

… and I hope they know how immensely grateful we are for their ongoing support. You guys are just fabulous, and it’s an honour for us to have your work included in our book. I have so much gratitude for our contributors, and to the wonderful Leesa Wallace of Wallace Publishing, for making this happen- her support has been invaluable, and has helped to facilitate something I’ve only ever dreamed about. We’re releasing a book. HOW has this happened?!

Further details will be announced and shared as we have them, so make sure you’re following us on all our socials to be kept up to date: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We’re going to be using the hashtag #DearChronicIllness to spread the word, and we’d be delighted to have you join in too. But for now, I hope you’re as ridiculously excited as we are!

Love and hugs,

SSK x
